The cat and the canary. John Willard. (Southern Comedy Players). Summer tour, 1959-1960.
The
Southern Comedy Players were founded by William Menlove and Bernard Esquilant
in Dunedin in 1957. They initially toured South Island towns not reached by the
New Zealand Players, but when that company ceased, the Southern Comedy Players
ventured nationwide, surviving until 1970. Founded with professional
intentions, the Southern Comedy Players were essentially a predecessor of the
Fortune Theatre, formed in 1974.
