Seventeen years after her death, Ryman Healthcare obtained approval to name a Christchurch retirement village in Summers’ honour. The formal opening celebrated her life and values, and a stamp issue marked the occasion.

In Dunedin, moves to recognise her part in the city's literary life included a feature in the Otago Daily Times in 2018. In 2021 a series of events reflect her achievements in the city she adopted as her home for many years. A new plaque on the Writers' Walk is a lasting commemoration of her work.
