The bone people by Keri Hulme (1947-2021) was first published by the women’s collective Spiral in 1983. It won the Booker Prize in 1984 and the Pegasus Prize for Literature in 1985. It was republished in hardback in 1985, with dust jacket art by Robert Jahnke (1951-), a well-known New Zealand sculptural and graphic artist.

Grand hills for sheep was the prize-winning novel in the Otago Daily Times Centennial Fiction Contest of 1948. The story follows the fortunes over forty years of Scottish pioneer families who settled in Otago. The first edition rapidly sold out after its publication by Whitcombe & Tombs in 1949. The dust jacket features the cover art of Russell Clark (1905-66).

The vintner’s luck is a romantic fantasy novel by Elizabeth Knox (1959-), her fourth full-length novel. It won several prestigious awards, including the Deutz Medal for Fiction at the 1999 Montana New Zealand Book Awards. The jacket design is by Sarah Maxey of Victoria University of Wellington.
