Wrestling with the angel comprises two three-act plays by Frank Sargeson. A time for sowing is concerned with early missionary settlement in New Zealand and dramatizes the domestic situation of Thomas Kendall, who authored the first primer of the Māori language. The cradle and the egg, written a decade before this publication, is a comedy with an end-of-the-world theme.

Bruce Mason. The end of the golden weather. Wellington: Price Milburn, 1962.

The pohutukawa tree and The end of the golden weather by Bruce Mason (1921-82) are both now considered iconic works of New Zealand theatre. Graham Percy (1938-2008) was commissioned by Price Milburn to design covers for both plays.

“Typography is part of the illustration for Percy. The chunky lettering seems part of the block-like illustrations in The end of the golden weather and The pohutukawa tree – the latter a stylised tree with thick brush strokes for branches and circles with cross-hatched lines as blooms”
