Thomas’s detective Tito Ihaka is unkempt, profane, overweight and a bit of a maverick who does not suffer fools gladly, especially when they are his superiors. Perhaps that explains why he became so popular. The Ihaka novels were translated into several languages, and continued to win awards. Death on Demand won the 2013 Ngaio Marsh award and Fallout was a finalist in the 2014 awards.
