The years between World War I and II marked the emergence of large amateur theatre societies in the main towns and cities of New Zealand. Founded in 1933, Dunedin Repertory performed at several venues in its early years, including His Majesty’s Theatre, Dunedin Town Hall Concert Chamber and Mayfair Theatre. In the late 1960s Dunedin Repertory bought the Playhouse Theatre, which remains its home today.
