From 1907 until the early 1930s, the Otago Daily Times & Witness Christmas annual took on the shorter title of Otago Witness Christmas annual. The annuals were by now issued earlier, in October, so they could be posted ‘Home’ in time for Christmas.

The cover artwork of the 1911 and 1913 issues is by Peter McIntyre (1862-1932), father of the famed war artist of the same name. Born in Scotland, McIntyre was the founder of the Caxton Printing Company, Dunedin, where he became a pioneer of lithographic techniques. He worked as a graphic artist for the Otago Daily Times and displayed his work at the Otago Art Society. Like his son’s painting, McIntyre’s work combined aspects of popular and high art.
